Photos and felt exhibition

Many of you will be familiar with photos by Owen Llewellyn. As the Friends’ resident photographer (literally – he can see Brixton Windmill from his flat!), he has taken some fantastic shots of our activities over the years and captured the windmill in all seasons. You can see many of his photos on this website as well as on our publicity material.
But Owen photographs more than the windmill. You can see from his Flickr feed that he has a strong interest in the natural world, as well as architecture, ghost signs and the music scene (he plays in the No Frills Band, which has also performed at many of our open days).
So the Events group of the Friends has invited Owen to exhibit some of his photos in Brixton Windmill itself, so that visitors can enjoy them when visiting the mill on open days in 2014.
The photos will be complemented by work by local textile artist Kim Winter of Flextiles, who specialises in felting and indigo dyeing. Like Owen, Kim likes natural organic forms – she will also be showing some pieces inspired by Brixton Windmill.
The exhibition opens with a private view on Good Friday 18 April, 6-8pm, at Brixton Windmill – everyone welcome.
Otherwise, visitors to the mill on open days throughout the season will be able to see the work. To book your free tour, see our Visit page.
