Volunteer training

Volunteer training

For new volunteers, or for volunteers who would like a refresher, we offer free three-hour induction training sessions.

There are two parts.

Part 1 is an introduction to windmills in general and to Brixton Windmill itself. This part is of interest to all new volunteers.

Part 2 (taking place in the windmill) will be advice and practice on leading the different kinds of guided tours we offer at Brixton Windmill. This part is for trainee guides and stewards (and for other volunteers if there is room). We will also cover essential health and safety training.

These sessions normally take place at the beginning of the season before Easter, but we may hold them at other times of the year as well, depending on demand.

Dates are advertised on our News page as well as through social media.

For more information, email volunteers@brixtonwindmill.org

Other volunteer training

We also offer other training to volunteers, depending on our activities. Some of this training leads to accredited qualifications, such as Emergency First Aid at Work.

This training is free, but in return we ask that you commit to volunteering for at least 8 hours over the following year.

Policies for Volunteers

When we onboard new volunteers we make them aware of the policies that govern FoWG. You can see these policies here.

I’m enjoying meeting people and helping out while visitors find out about the history of the site.  It’s a little gem and should be known about!
