Training placements with festival participants
Three training placement opportunities will be offered to interested visitors at this year’s Brixton Windmill Festival to be held in Windmill Gardens on Saturday 22 June.
Three local organisations are giving three candidates a chance to sample voluntary placements in very different work environments.
Spare Tyre, a participatory theatre company working with people aged 60+, adults with learning disabilities and women who have experienced violence, is offering a place to a candidate who would?like to gain experience working in participatory and community arts. The short placement will include the opportunity to work in Spare Tyre’s office as well as assisting on projects and events.
Lambeth Council is offering a candidate the chance to work over two days with the Development and Education Officer at the council, within the Cultural Development Unit. This includes?spending a day at Brixton Windmill getting involved in one of the educational visits by young people.
If it’s baking and cake making that appeals, Brixton-based Old Post Office Bakery is offering an opportunity to work at its bakery. The position offers an opportunity to work for two days with the team and learn the ropes, with a chance to see how a small bakery business is run.
The placements are voluntary positions, with payment only for expenses. The positions are open to applications from all age groups. CRB checks will be made for roles within Spare Tyre Theatre Company and Lambeth Council.
Anyone who is interested in the training should email their interest, and a CV if available, to festival@brixtonwindmill.org.uk. Information will also be available at the Brixton Windmill Festival on 22 June from the Friends of Windmill Gardens or the Old Post Office Bakery stalls.
