Football at Windmill Gardens

Shaun Wilson reports from the touchline on Windmill Gardens' own football fiesta

FoWG’s annual five-a-side football festival took place on Saturday 28 June in Windmill Gardens. Nine teams turned up on the day, and although there were some heavy showers, they didn’t dampen their sprits.

There was a new age group this year, the under-14s, so along with the under-8s, the under-12s and the under-16s, this meant that the two referees, Tanica Gray and Angela Kiobel, had a full and long day ahead of them.

We are happy to report that the only biting incident that took place was the players tucking into the oranges and apples handed out throughout the day. 🙂

Everybody who participated received a certificate and medal, with each winning team having their team name engraved on the football shield for that age group.

Our congratulations go out to the following winning teams:

  • Under-8s: Quwwa FC
  • Under-12s: The London Boys
  • Under-14s: S3P
  • Under-16s: Windmill FC.

FoWG would like to say a big thank you to;

  • BGRMO for funding this event, as they have for several years
  • David Kiobel, Lambeth’s community sports officer and his department for supplying the referees (thank you referees!), the goalposts and the footballs
  • all the other teams, their managers, their coaches, and their parents for supporting this event through their participation, and to all our volunteers.

All of you helped to make it a roaring success and we look forward to seeing you all again next year!
