Repainting the windmill mural
The faded 30-year-old windmill mural on Lyham Road is being given a new lease of life.
If Walls Could Speak is a new project to celebrate Brixton’s murals, including oral history training, a new mural heritage trail and a film documentary.
Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Clapham Film Unit is running the project in partnership with the London Mural Preservation Society, the Oral History Society, Lambeth Archives and the Friends of Windmill Gardens.
If you would like to have a go at painting yourself, leading street art group Positive Arts will be teaching different techniques, including spray can, stencil and painting skills. There are further repainting sessions on Thursday 24 May at 4-9pm and Saturday 26 May at 12-5pm.
The mural will be unveiled on Tuesday 5 June, along with a screening of the documentary.
