Another successful training session at Brixton Windmill

After the coldest night of the year so far, a group of intrepid volunteers were up early last Saturday, 11 February, to attend training sessions to prepare more guides and stewards for this year’s open days. Ten people attended the stage 1 training which gives an introduction to the history of windmills in Lambeth and a brief history of Brixton Windmill and the Ashby family who were millers there from 1816-1934 and two people attended stage 2 training practising giving guided tours. All the stage 1 participants have signed up for stage 2 on Sunday 11 March. Significantly we had two teenagers on the stage 1 course and they both said they thoroughly enjoyed the session and are going to tell their schoolmates all about Brixton Windmill.

Many thanks to Friends who helped: Nick Weedon and Richard Santhiri led the stage 1 training, Sandra Watts and Penny Steele led the stage 2 training, Annick Alet helped with refreshements and the stall selling booklets, badges and postcards – one member renewed and another joined – and Jean Kerrigan who organised the session.
