Harvest Home at Brixton Windmill

Harvest Home 3 August

Harvest Home at Brixton Windmill on 3 August

It was lovely to welcome the South East Grain Alliance and UK&I Bakery Family to celebrate ‘Harvest Home’—marking the arrival of the first wheat and bakes of the new season.

Thanks to Andy Forbes for the welcome and the invite to the regional farmers to share their harvest reports:

  • “The most straightforward harvest for a long time.”
  • “Seeing the real benefit of growing a diverse range of chemical-and-input-free wheats.”

Next up Lizzie Taczalski, FOWG trustee thanked all for coming to visit us and shared our story about the mill and milling.

The guest panel of millers, bakers, and farmers shared their stories about the vital connections in their part of the grain system, their love for cereal diversity, and why taste matters most. Thank you to our FoWG miller, Ann Bodkin, for chairing the panel session. The joyous conversations and connections continued over a delicious harvest spread. We enjoyed cheese, charcuterie, tomato salads, gazpacho, and the very first breads baked from six of this harvest’s wheats.

Huge thanks to Brixton Windmill millers, Abel Holsborough, Soli, Ann Bodkin, and Tatiana Dickins for running the live milling demos—everyone adored the experience.

We hope to welcome the South East Grain Alliance again next year!
