Milling and Baking Day

We are really excited to be able to offer a totally unique Milling and Baking experience at Brixton Windmill. If you are on the search for an unusual gift for family or friends this could be what you are looking for! Spend half the day with our milling team learning about the windmill and grinding wheat to produce flour. The other half of the day will be spent learning to bake an artisan loaf with our expert baker.  You’ll leave with your own loaf and a ton of new knowledge about inner London’s only working mill. The day is for a small group and lunch is included.

Flavours of Christmas Workshop

Our Italian Baker, Fabio ran a wonderful baking workshop on Saturday 19 November here at the Windmill Centre. Here’s what he reported from the day:

Four lovely home bakers joined us and Brixton Windmill centre was turned into a proper, fully equipped baking class venue, warm atmosphere and some music in the background. Our lovely bakers got really hands on and worked their way through three recipes, completely made from scratch: Panettone-flavoured sticky buns, a Mince-Pie strudel and some soft Italian amaretti biscuits. The class was very informal and intimate, with only four participants: they asked a lot of questions, engaged throughout the class and got the chance to share their personal home baking experience.

Fabio baked lunch which included: a pumpkin galette, walnut sourdough, cherry tomato focaccia, some cheese, single-portion rose & lemon drizzle and chocolate cookies.  Our volunteer Eric was on hand to give participants a tour of the windmill and volunteer Rossana was on hand throughout the day to keep on top of things – a huge thank you to them for making the day run so smoothly.  The class ended around 4pm – all very happy and fully loaded with baked goodies. The feedback from participants says it all:
