Excellent news – at the beginning of July the Friends of Windmill Gardens signed the lease on the new Brixton Windmill Centre and moved in. The centre was designed by Squire & Partners and paid for by Lambeth Council.
A hardworking group of volunteers spent the weekend moving, cleaning and sorting items that had been stored in various locations in Brixton. A lot of sorting remains to be done, but our part-time staff are now working in the centre.
Outside, Father Nature have laid reinforced turf in front of the centre and sown grass seed in other areas. They will now be working on landscaping the bank between the centre and the windmill.
Brixton Windmill Centre is not officially open to visitors until we get everything sorted out and social distancing facilities are put in place.
However, we are restarting our weekly tai chi and monthly gardening sessions in August. To take part you need to book in advance – see details under individual events on the Events page.
We are also hoping to open Brixton Windmill for short tours on 12-13 September and to run the guided walk of Brixton Hill on 13 September. Again, these will need to be booked in advance – watch this space for more details.
