On Sunday 13 December from 12pm to 3.30pm Friends of Windmill Gardens invite you to visit our Winter Market in Windmill Gardens.
A wide variety of stalls sited around the park will be selling gifts produced by local makers – everything from bath bombs, scented candles, retro hand-made bags and accessories to household items crafted from wood or resin plus cyanotype prints and naturally dyed scarves. This is your opportunity to purchase unique hand-made gifts to suit all tastes in a safe socially distanced open-air environment.
Emily Hunt will be selling Christmas cupcakes, gingerbread and brownies for you to take home and enjoy. Visit Brixton Brewery’s stall to buy their award-winning beers as well as their tote bags and festive face masks.
Throughout the afternoon the Queen of Crepes will serve hot pancakes, including gluten-free and vegan options. Mulled wine and other hot drinks as well as home-made cakes will be on sale at the Windmill Pop-up Café, and the windmill shop will be open for you to purchase a wide range of merchandise. There will also be the chance to pick up a quirky bargain from the Windmill’s popular bric-a-brac stall or maybe a plant to take home. Windmill Flour will be on sale, making an ideal seasonal gift along with a jar of yummy home-made Brixton jam or chutney.
For local families with young children Santa will be in his magical grotto inside the windmill from 12.30-3pm. For a small donation of just £4 children can safely visit him, and all will receive a gift.
On display from 2pm will be the entries to our annual Windmill Festive Bake contest. Because of Covid-19 regulations judging will be done privately this year, but the three prize winners will be clearly marked for all to admire. If you are a keen amateur baker why not enter the contest? First prize: a place on one of Brixton Windmill’s bread baking classes! Click here find out how to submit your entry.
During the afternoon, to keep everyone in seasonal good spirits, carols will be sung by local choristers – the Windmill Singers.
Our first Winter Market at Brixton Windmill looks set to be a colourful and safe event. We hope you will join us on 13 December.
If Covid-19 social distancing regulations change, this event may be cancelled. Please check our website, Twitter, Facebook or Instagram accounts for the latest updates.
