SUMMARY:Guided Walk of Brixton Hill
DESCRIPTION:Our popular walks in the Brixton Hill area are guided by London Blue Badge Guide Liz du Parcq. Liz is a London Blue Badge Tourist Guide who has lived in Lambeth since 1970, was an elected Lambeth councillor for our local ward from 1974 until 1982, and was previously a trustee of Friends of Windmill Gardens. Liz is now a life member. \nThe walks are gently paced, cover about 1.5 miles in total, and provide an opportunity for you to learn a bit more about the area where John Ashby built his windmill in 1816, and how other important developments at that time have shaped this part of Brixton.\nThe walks start from Brixton Windmill promptly at 1pm and last about 1.5 hours, depending on the walking speed of the group and the questions that come up. \nThe walk follows a once-rural street pattern and traces the 19th-century development of the area’s farmland for housing, prison and clean water supply. You will hear tales of prisoners, discover how trams scaled Brixton Hill and learn why the Telegraph pub was so named. You can spot a Tuscan oil jar shop sign, a rare pillar box and one of London’s oldest cinemas.\nYou will return in time to visit the windmill itself (if you intend to book a full tour of the windmill afterwards we recommend booking for 3pm or later). \nYou will also have time to see our exhibition, sample our café and have a chance to buy Brixton Windmill flour, preserves made from local produce and our Windmill-themed products.\nThe charge of £12, or £6 for concessions (children free), all supports Brixton Windmill. \nIf you would like to make a group booking of 10 or more people please contact info@brixtonwindmill.org to discuss a private booking.\nThe tour takes place on the second Sunday of the month to coincide with the windmill open days.\nTo make a booking please Click Here ( https://www.brixtonwindmill.org/product/guided-walk-of-brixton-hill/ )\n
