SUMMARY:Annual Talk – Ashbys on the Wandle
DESCRIPTION:Brixton Windmill’s Ashbys at Grove Mill on the Wandle\nWednesday 9 September, 7.15pm (doors open 6.45pm)\nFree but booking is required.\nBOOK HERE ( https://www.brixtonwindmill.org/product/annualtalk/ )\nJoin Mick Taylor from Wandle Industrial Museum to learn about the Ashby family after they headed down to the River Wandle – what did they do there and why did they leave?  In 1804 the Wandle was said to be the hardest working river for its size in the world. This talk looks at the industries and some of the people that used the mills along the river (including the Ashbys) from it’s sources in Croydon and Carshalton to where the river joins the Thames at Wandsworth.\n\nThe talk is part of the Lambeth Heritage Festival ( https://www.lambethlocalhistoryforum.org.uk/ ) Programme. More details of the programme can be found here ( https://www.lambethlocalhistoryforum.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/heritage-brochure-2025-final.pdf ).\nDoors open at 6.45pm and refreshments will be available. Our shop will also be open.\n \n \n \n
