We are currently recruiting for the following paid role: 

Community Club Facilitator

Brixton Windmill Centre

Join the friendly team at Friends of Windmill Gardens to run our Thursday Community Club for local residents aged over 55. Our Community Club is a popular weekly fixture for many local residents and membership has been growing since early 2022 with around 25 people attending each week. The club brings people together socially through activities and lunch. We’ve received funding this year to create a new paid role of Community Club Facilitator. 

The Role 

You will be responsible for planning, facilitating and evaluating our Community Club. 

  • Facilitating at Brixton Windmill Centre 9am to 3pm (opening/locking up venue) on Thursdays
  • Ongoing evaluation and preparation of monitoring reports for funders. 
  • Planning activities and occasional trips for community club members. 
  • Assisting with lunch preparation (alongside community club members and volunteers). Planning and purchasing lunch ingredients.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Experience of working in a community setting. 
  • Experience of working with volunteers.
  • Experience of managing a small project, including evaluation, budget management and reporting. 
  • Some cooking experience in helping with planning and preparing group lunch (usually a soup). 
  • Good communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Willing to step in and help on your own initiative.

Desirable skills, experience and qualifications: 

  • Experience of working with people aged 55+
  • Current DBS (working with vulnerable adults)
  • First Aid training (we could organise if necessary)
  • Food Hygiene certificate (we could organise if necessary) 

Contract and Hourly Rate

We offer this role on a freelance contract basis of 7 hours per week at a rate of £20 per hour until the end of December 2024 (this may be extended depending on our funding). You would be required to be at our venue Brixton Windmill Centre to facilitate the Community Club which runs 10am to 2pm on Thursdays. We are looking for someone to start as soon as possible.
